Nokia's Symbian Foundation out to kick Google's Android's Ass ?? Apple's Ass is on The Line Too!!

A few days after i posted about my take on Google's Android on my previous post , I read about the recent Nokia's USD 410 Million purchase of the remaining 48% of Symbian's share that's not Nokia's...

Nokia pledges to offer free open source applications in the future... Android is doing the same but up till now , the whole project is still being postponed... Apple is currently finishing up on the opening of their App Store... sadly Apple will be selling some of those applications.. which means once Symbian Foundation and Android starts producing something for the mass market , Apple will be forced to offer free applications eventually .. and that is very very good..

All these open source stuff is really interesting.. it's like a huge canvas for developers to create applications for the end users to benefit from...i'm pretty sure that the future phone softwares won't be as boring as what it is now (iPhone's apps are of a different league for now..)

and the idea of these open source materials being so easily available on mobile phones in the future really will change how people use their mobile devices..With Nokia's Symbian Foundation urge to smack everyone from Google's Android to Apple's App Store to Research in Motion's Blackberry to LiMo... it's gonna be a very very interesting industry in the coming years..

Here's a preview of Android

And here's what Apple has done on their app...

MacBook Air - Damaged Hinges - A little too fragile....

I'm not sure if this is the first ever report on the MacBook Air's physical flaw or not.. i read about an isolated case of a design flaw. What i'm gonna post is not really a design flaw... it's cause by stupid customers that have no brain or the intelligence to think and forced the display too far to the back... and also maybe because of Apple's choice of material in making the parts in securing the hinges..

At first when i first noticed the problem , it was just a case of mis-aligned hinge.. by the end of the next day , both end of the hinge broke open.. and right now , the MacBook Air's display can't stay put at any angle.. it'll either drop to the back or front (closed) ...

Here's some pictures to show you what i'm trying to say... if you look closely , it's actually the rubber/plastic part that is being torn... and that displaces the hinge's mechanism...

Don't get me wrong.. Apple is great.. and the MacBook Air is just revolutionary .. but nobody's perfect isn't??

New 3.06 GHz iMacs released...

Apple announced the new iMacs yesterday night... well.. not much upgrades unless you're going for the high end custom-to-order unit... as for the basic unit , the upgrade is a bump up for the processor to 2.4GHz... it still comes with 1GB ram (800MHz DDR2 SDRAM; supports up to 4GB) ... the second 20" is running on a 2.66GHz , 2GB ram , 320Gb HD... and lastly for the 24" , is running at 2.8GHz ... the specs in general is the same as the previous imacs..

but if you do customize the 24" imac , you can go up to 3.06GHz , 4GB ram (you can do the same to the rest of the iMacs..) , 1TB HD and the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3 graphics card....

interesting?? not so... not that exciting... no wonder there's not much 'hype' over the new iMacs upgrades...

after hearing out some 'rumours' floating around , i think June will be an interesting time for Apple products... 3G iphone?? imac-looking MacBook Pro?? , aluminium MacBooks?? ehehe... can't wait for that..

iPhone is not available in Malaysia YET!!!

too all you people who wants the iPhone , please bear in mind that it's not freaking available in ASIA just yet... watever phone that you see people selling or using , it's considered as parallel imported units.. and they are already being tampered with... it's either software of hardware unlocked.. those versions are not covered under the Apple's warranty.. so no matter how fucking cool you look when you're using the iPhone , if you face any problem , you can come to us (apple resellers) for help.. but if we can't help you much , don't show temper and shit.. it's pointless... the buttons don't work?? send it back to Apple US laa.. see what they've got to say...

and for those who wants to know.. we have no freaking idea on who's gonna be the service provider for the iPhone or how much it'll cost when it arrives.. we don't even know when it's gonna be launched here... so if you guys want to be updated , leave your email or contact to your favourite apple guys... they'll be more than happy to update you ...

as far as the rumors go , the new iPhones will have 3G and bigger capacity (ipod touch already has got 32GB..) ... so WAIT FOR IT!!!!!

Macworld's BEST of 2007

A few more days and we'll enter 2008... so far , it's been a great year for Apple... from the new iPod nano to the iPhone to the new iMacs.. things has been really really exciting... to recap the year.. Macworld came out with their own 'The 23rd Annual Editors' Choice Awards' ... which features their favorite products to hit the market between November 1, 2006, and November 1, 2007.

in there , you'll find interesting hardwares and softwares to complement your Apple products..

here's the list...

hardwares
softwares
websites

* here's something extra... the list of the worst movies of 2007 according to MSN

iPhone/iPod Touch app that controls DigiDesign's Pro Tools.. how cool is that..

Alex le Lievre created the best 3rd party app for the iPhone/iPod Touch so far.. it's not a lame game which require you to utilize the gyroscope or some pointless app that does nothing except waste your time showing off the touch screen...

what Alex le Lievre did was ... he wrote an app that could control Pro Tools using the Wi-Fi network.. it's freaking cool... imagine you're all alone setting up the drums for a recording session and you'll need to go back and forth 20-50 times just to get the kick and snare to sound right... with this , you can basically control the levels from the drum room itself (monitor using a headphone of course..)

this is definitely the most impressive piece of 3rd party app for the iPhone/iPod Touch so far... check out the video below...

Missing Boot Camp from some MacBooks with Pre-Installed Leopard... :(

I've recently discovered that there's a batch of MacBooks with preinstalled Leopard but without Boot Camp Assistant installed. All I've got to say is that it's a pain in the ass... i've tried from installing the boot camp assistant from the original Disk 1 that comes with the MacBook... and I've even tried clean installing a fresh Leopard from the disks provided when u get a MacBook...

Both gave disappointing results.. first of all... you're able to run Boot Camp Assistant.. and partition your hard drive and even successfully install Windows on that partition... the problem is when you start up the machine and press the 'alt/option' key to enable you to choose which OS to boot up from... it only shows the Mac's OS and you can't even see the Windows partition...

The only solution so far is to tell people that , the MacBook will be set to boot up from Windows.. and if there's a need to boot up in Mac , just hold on to the 'alt/option' key to boot up from Mac OS... ridiculously stupid if you ask me.. hmmmm....

here's where you can find Boot Camp installer if you happen to own a MacBook like the ones i mentioned...

Limited edition iPod Classic or just plain bad quality control from Apple??

A few weeks back , I encountered this iPod Classic when I was preparing it for one of my customer... I didn't realized the 'printing' mistake at first until one of my colleague pointed it out to me... ahaha.. check it out... this is real... it's right out of the box... :)

Left is the normal iPod ... pay attention to the placement of the click wheel buttons on the right iPod Classic... ahaha... cool eh??

It's a working iPod Classic... just with a little printing/contruction defect...

and just in case if you're wondering... the 'menu' function is still at the usual position (just below the screen.. which is now the 'previous track' button...)

We gave this unit back to Apple to sort it out... but I was thinking of keeping it for a while and sell it on eBay... don't you think this iPod might be able to fetch a high price?? ehehe..

iPods are for RICH people... seriously...

Here are some interesting versions of the iPods... made to satisfy 'rich' people's ego i think... i dont think they will be using it much anyway... ahaha...

featured in today's In-Tech , this is an iPod Shuffle by Heyerdahl ...

"The world’s most expensive MP3 player and earplugs made of solid 18 karat white and pink gold. Hand set with 430 diamonds. Total of 4,30 carat. Value RSP = US$ 41.000, - / € 31.000,-

Made by Heyerdahl Juvelèr / Norway, to show our customers that we where able to combine solid handcrafting with modern technology. "

click here if you want to get it... :)

Next up , we have Gold-plated iPods by Xexoo ... these are really cool...

Lastly , this is an iPod customized by HP for Sean John... Mr P. Diddy ... even the bloody speaker for iPod is customized to 'bling' to the max... hmmm... makes me wanna be a rap superstar.. ahaha..

Apple has done it again... this time , it's iPod's time to shine...

hmmm.. where to start... I'll start with iPod Shuffle first... it's still 1GB but they have a new colour scheme for the whole range of iPods (refer pic below).. so there's not much to talk about...

Now... the redesigned iPod Nano !!! new colour scheme... bigger screen... still with the slim body... but a quite distasteful new design... it looks weird.. it looks bloody weird.. it's like a shortened iPod video... it doesn't have the Nano feel anymore.. it's not so Nano now... it's like a fat nano after being flattened by a steamroller.. haigh.. it's just ugly...

Now as for the replacement of iPod Video , Apple introduces the iPod Classic (i guess video playback is considered a 'classic' feature for ipods now..) The colour option is now either Black or Silver.. The best part about the iPod classic , the capacity is now at 80GB and 160GB!!!! 160GB!!!!! isn't that just crazy.. that's like 40,000 songs on it... ahaha... crazy Apple people... they just won't stop creating and upgrading the most interesting portable music player of this lifetime...

Another new addition to the iPod family is the iPod touch. it's the exact copy of the iPhone except that it's slightly smaller. Comes with Multi-touch interface. just like the iPhone... it also has got built-in Wifi which enables you to browse the web (streaming youtube , emails.. bla bla bla..) it's basically the stripped down version of the iPhone... it's like a personal portable device which is handy especially when you're on a long journey alone... not only you can use it as an iPod , it's also a device for you to hook up to the internet... the only problem is the capacity which comes in either 8GB or 16GB... which in my own opinion , it's too small...

Lastly , (product)red....

that's iRaq for you....

New Apple t-shirt... nice...

Damn nice right??? damn apple malaysia... never give out more to other salespersons... apparently only those who went to Apple's training get those shirts....
