Cover Song : Billy Jean by Michael Jackson

This time around , I'll gonna post some Billy Jean done by other people... If you know the song , it's an upbeat disco-ish song popularized by Michael Jackson (if you didn't know that , please kill yourself...) The story of the song is quite sad actually... but MJ sang it to an uptempo danceable song... Recently I got myself Chris Cornell's latest album , Carry On , and he actually covered that song as well (i'll post a proper review on that album soon)... it's the best cover i've heard in years... it fits the song ... it's sad... his voice is beautifully depressing... here it is...

Here's other covers... this is a damn good jazzy version of it... by Alex Cornell (i dont think alex and chris is related... hmmm)

Cobra Starship is seen here at their AOL session doing an acoustic version of Billy Jean... with a lame joke in the beginning... hmmm... it's not too bad... although it's not an improvised version , it sounds good... they can sing... :)

And here's a cover by Sidewalk Prophets... hmmm... no comment?? ahahha... but that big dude can really sing!!!! it looks funny... but he can sing!!! ehehe..

Reviews : Imitation Electric Piano - Trinity Neon , Torngat - Torngat , Quinimine - Like pistons for engines

Imitation Electric Piano - Trinity Neon -> This is a year 2003 album... it's not one of the latest albums around , but i just found out about them... ( good music is not always about the latest music around anyway ) ... I did some research on them... and i found out that they're formed by the bassist of Stereolab , Simon Johns .... Back to their style of music , i would say that it's a bit of 'chill-out lounge' , Indie , post-rockish and 'spy-theme' style... ahaha... I'm not sure what genre to put them in.. so that's wat i think of them... Their songs has got very nice upfront 'funky , groovy' basslines... most of their songs are instrumental tracks... lots of keyboards layered upon the guitars / strings ... it's highly recommended if you need an album to entertain guests at your place instead of having one of those cliche Cafe Del Mar compilations...

Track List :-

Gin Lane
An Hour is Sixty Minutes Too Long
Small Science
King's Evil
The Khartoum Venus
Theme for an Imitation Electric Piano
Chronicle of a Split Foretold
Don't Tell Me I'm Wrong (But You Are)
Emphatic Yet Melodic
It Sounds Like a Party
Theme for an I.E.P. (Reprise)

Torngat - Torngat (2002) -> I've got not much info on Torngat... not much from Wiki as well... But this is definitely one of the more interesting album from an 'indie' band... it's somehow quite experimental and jazzy at the same time... saxophones/trumpets are being cleverly used on certain songs... samples as well... The song , Ukumama is so weird.. it sounds like they're just plucking open strings of their instrument (guitar???) and turning the tuning knob at the same time... weird... ahaha... certain songs are a bit too 'doomy' for my liking.. too slow... too draggy.. but its an interesting album... :) ... i'll post a review on their newer album in the near future..

Tracklist:

"32 mm"
"Three Frozen Birds"
"Long stick"
"lady Grey"
"Sadly Looking at an Immersed Dying Eider"
"Resurfacing"
"Space"
"Drop the Bomb"
"New Groove"
"Ukumama"
"Backpain"
"Sparks Like a Song"
"Hate to Say I Told You So"
"Angels Try"

Quinimine - Like pistons for engines -> I really have no info at all about them... no wiki results... so i went over to their label's , Greyflat , website and took this...ahahha... yeah...
Quinimine were quietly formed in 1998, and have existed quietly ever since. Along with other like-minded Mile-End bands, Quinimine explore the subtlety of dynamics and space through a reverence for historic principles, rather than histrionic bluster. Coming out of the creative milieu of Montreal's Mile End area, has played a pivotal role in fostering Quinimine's plaintive, mournful, and melancholic side without sacrificing the desire to marry the aforementioned tenets to damaged pop sensibilities.
As what they said , their music is nice to listen to.. .it's like a mellower Coldplay... emmm... nice songs to sleep to.. soothing drums , flowing basslines , smooth vocals.. great songs to listen to if you want a peaceful evening...

Tracklist:

Beauty Pills
Filaments
That's How We Learned To Dance
Ribbons
Police Station Blues
Cold Monsoon
They Built Bridges to Build Skyscrapers

*I'll upload the album covers tonight... i can't seem to upload it now...ahaha..damnit... :)

Streamyx , Streamyx.... I feel so cheated....

Two days ago , I allowed my good friend , yudhish , to test his broadband modem at my place because his is faulty... so I used my adapter to power it up... it can be powered up... but it's rosak already wan... after a while there's no light on it... ok lo.. then I plugged my modem back to place... then the problem started... power light was on ... the other 2 lights was on for about 10 seconds then it goes blank again... over and over again... so it's confirmed that my modem rosak edi.. haigh.. wat to do...

So since i paid RM77 (512MB + modem) , i thought my modem is covered by TMnet la.. cause I paid RM77 mar.. ( there's also a package , RM66 512Mb without modem) i thought that the additional RM10 is to cover the modem la..... i heard various stories about the modem warranty...so i went over to TMnet , Uptown yesterday to get it replaced... when i reached there , i found out that there's a 7-day one to one exchange if the modem has got any problems... and 1-year of manufacturer's warranty (where they'll repair it )

" kalau macam tuh , saya bayar sepuluh ringgit extra untuk apa???" i asked...

" itu untuk rental "....

wat the fuck right?? damnit man.. it's partly my fault for not knowing this in the first place la... i've got this streamyx for more than 3 years already... so I've been contributing RM10 each month to them for more than 2 years now... ahahha... damnit...

NVM... so I decided to get a new modem and downgrade my package to RM66... cause i won't be needing to fucking RENT it now mar... the guy at tmnet asked me to get a modem from them... he said RM98... i said wait a while for me to downgrade the line first... so i took a number and waited for my turn... less than 2 minutes , it's my turn (i know... it's damn fast service right... somemore now bulan puasa... amazing isn't??? ..ahahha..) after i'm down there , i asked the kakak there how much is the modem... and she said it's RM82... hmmm... weird..

I called Yudhish if he knows wats the selling price outside... he said it should be around RM 60+.. so ok lor.... screw streamyx... i went off to Curve at first to look for modem... but ended up getting an Aztech modem in One Utama since it's nearer to my place... the place where i bought my modem was selling it for almost 50% more than the curve... but ended up about 2 ringgit cheaper... ahahha...

Here's 2 pictures of the modem.. (pictures make the blog more interesting isn't??)

it's working fine... so far... ahahaha.. Streamyx... screw you guys...

* their fucking let's talk promo also gives sohai information to people wan... free calls ends December 2007 , streamyx pay separately... hmmm... next time , print those details out!!!...

Kekecohan di UPM...

If you don't know what happened , it's mainly about a student's belonging got confiscated because he was suspected to be involved in some 'politics' by distributing some flyers found in his room... since they couldn't find other 'evidence' , they took his laptop because they suspect that there're other 'information' in it... hmmmmmmm

this is actually the first video posted up on youtube... this video depicts how determined the students were in requesting a formal letter from the 'guards' who took the laptops .... all they needed is a simple formal letter saying that they have confiscated the student's laptop.. that's all... but then , you know la.... haigh..

some other videos i find interesting... it's so interesting because I find that alot of those in the video are like sohais who just got off the zoo... i'm not sure what it's about.. so I'm not gonna speculate anything... think for yourself... :)

I've made my own Coffin... a paper one... :)

Raymond told me about what he did at work... paper crafts.. ahaha.. yeah.. he showed me a few pictures of what he did.. he did some Japanese Anime-like cat (fei mau... fei mau..) and South Park's Kenny... the cat looks good.. kenny looks weird.. ahahha..

anyway , I did some research online just now... found loads of websites with printable paper craft stuffs... since it's my first time , I looked for something more box-like... something IMO easier to make... so I went over to Haunted Paper Toys ... and looked for the coffins... ahahha...

I forgot to take some pics of the printouts... but it's pretty much straight forward... And I didn't have glue with me... so the end-result is quite 'raw' ... here's the pictures.. oh yeah... the printouts are in Black and White.. so the details aren't really that 'detailed' on this coffin... but it looks good... :)

It's quite interesting to cut out these stuff and build it.... that's because from the printouts , you can't really see what's it about... but as you go on , it gets more and more interesting.. I think I'll be doing more of these stuff... and I'll post it up...

Can't claim dead body even after a year??

According to allAfrica.com , the family of Mr. Dennis Ogbonnaya Nwankwo couldn't claim his dead 24-year old son's body even after a year since his death. And this is happening in Malaysia.

The family was being told that the "body of the deceased Nigerian (Lawrence) has been deposited at Hospital UKM mortuary, Kuala-Lumpur by the police because the circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear.

After a year , I don't think the family will still be interested in knowing what exactly happened to their son. All they want is to have a proper burial for their son isn't?? it's that simple... but looks like the authorities want to find out the truth regarding what happened... well... i guess the family will have to wait... God bless them...

Melissa Cross - and you thought vocals lesson is gay...

"When people ask me what style of singing I teach, I say, 'Anything passionate'". - Melissa Cross

Dave , introduce me to Melissa Cross some time ago... saying that he wanted to get her DVD to learn how to sing... hmmm.. i thought that was gay... that's until I saw the list of satisfied 'students' of hers... here's some of the 'students'

All That Remains, Arch Enemy,Candiria,Chimaria,Cradle of Filth,Every Time I Die, From Autumn to Ashes, Full Blown Chaos, God Forbid,God or Julie,Haste the Day, Ill Nino,It Dies Today, Killswitch Engage, Kittie,Lamb of God,Melissa Auf der Maur,Shadows Fall, Sick Of It All,SliPKnoT,The Showdown,36 Crazyfists,Throwdown,Trivium,Underoath ,Unearth,Walls of Jericho

ehehe.. how's that for a vocals lesson?? if you know any of the band , you'll know that it's not the normal singing.. it's more of screams , growls , .... you know... metal stuff...

Anyway , Dave wanted to get the Zen of Screaming 1 & 2.. i'm not a vocalist.. but i'm damn interested to know how the hell these people can really scream their lungs out everytime they perform...without fail... that's interesting...

Here's some videos taken off youtube.com...

And below is an interview with Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy and Melissa Cross (interview by metal injection) ... at the end of the interview , there'll be the video clip of Nemesis by Arch Enemy from the album , Doomsday Machine...enjoy...

Apple has done it again... this time , it's iPod's time to shine...

hmmm.. where to start... I'll start with iPod Shuffle first... it's still 1GB but they have a new colour scheme for the whole range of iPods (refer pic below).. so there's not much to talk about...

Now... the redesigned iPod Nano !!! new colour scheme... bigger screen... still with the slim body... but a quite distasteful new design... it looks weird.. it looks bloody weird.. it's like a shortened iPod video... it doesn't have the Nano feel anymore.. it's not so Nano now... it's like a fat nano after being flattened by a steamroller.. haigh.. it's just ugly...

Now as for the replacement of iPod Video , Apple introduces the iPod Classic (i guess video playback is considered a 'classic' feature for ipods now..) The colour option is now either Black or Silver.. The best part about the iPod classic , the capacity is now at 80GB and 160GB!!!! 160GB!!!!! isn't that just crazy.. that's like 40,000 songs on it... ahaha... crazy Apple people... they just won't stop creating and upgrading the most interesting portable music player of this lifetime...

Another new addition to the iPod family is the iPod touch. it's the exact copy of the iPhone except that it's slightly smaller. Comes with Multi-touch interface. just like the iPhone... it also has got built-in Wifi which enables you to browse the web (streaming youtube , emails.. bla bla bla..) it's basically the stripped down version of the iPhone... it's like a personal portable device which is handy especially when you're on a long journey alone... not only you can use it as an iPod , it's also a device for you to hook up to the internet... the only problem is the capacity which comes in either 8GB or 16GB... which in my own opinion , it's too small...

Lastly , (product)red....

Rihanna's Umbrella Cover songs...

This song was introduced to me by my good friend , Justin Ong , ... I'm not a person who listens to these stuff... but i got hooked on to this song.. The beat , the melody.. Rihanna herself is HOT... young and HOT... sexy and HOT... emmhmmmm...

anyway , I saw a few videos from youtube.com of other people covering her song... these are some of the better ones...

1. Mandy Moore (The best in my opinion)

2. Tommy Knox - nice vocals... cool style..

3.Ben Deignan - A jazzy version of it... nice...

4. Marie Digby - she looks like some goth chick... but she's singing Rihanna's Umbrella... not too bad.. and she's quite hot too... :)

5. yourphoenix - hmmmmm... no comment...
